in marriage. Is it pretense or is it that most don't really care. See 5 reasons below:
LESBIANISM:
As shocking as it may sound, most educated upwardly mobile, successful Nigerian girls are into this act
secretly! Most picked up the act from their hostels in same sex Secondary School, while others were introduced into it at the university. Bottom line is , it is
now a social cult of sorts and you dare not speak against it in an all female gathering or you risk being
shouted down and labelled old fashioned and
intolerant. This act is the single most important reason why most girls are not really enthusiastic about
marriage. THEY RECEIVE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FROM FELLOW WOMEN and those in the act say they prefer
it to whatever a man has to offer.
FINANCIAL SUCCESS :
Gone are the days when men bestrode the financial
sector as the proverbial colossus. The reality is that
women are catching up very fast and doing quite well.
In fact, most analysts believe that in the next 20 years
women will take over global finance. As it is, more and
more women are beginning to see financial success
more important than marriage.
CAREER PURSUIT:
Yeah, our sisters are coming out more focused in their
career pursuit and dreams like never before. They see
success in their various careers as more important and
they are no longer enamored by the allure of a
married life. Recent statistics about marriage and
divorce has not helped either.
BELIEFS ABOUT MARRIAGE ARE CHANGING:
Back in the days you must be married to be seen as
responsible. Well, not anymore! More women are
turning out on top of their careers and other women
are beginning to see them as role models. One of such
women is the celebrated talk show host billionaire
Oprah Winfrey who recently said she will likely leave
this world as "a never married woman" and instead of
condemnation most people saw nothing wrong in her
decision. Wake up! This is the new reality. For most
modern women, marriage sucks!
THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH GOOD MEN:
Some cite this as the reason most eligible women are
still single. They are somewhat correct. Men in general
especially in Nigeria have not really woken up to the
realization that times have changed. They still have a
traditional opinion about marriage, even the educated
ones who should know better are no different. Women
are becoming more assertive and more confident of
their gender . While some men still find it offensive and
derogatory to be approached by a woman for a
relationship, their female counterparts finds nothing
wrong with it. And indeed global trends supports the
women. Again some men have proven to be
unrepentant jerks. With wife battery and abuse still on
the high side most women are afraid of getting into a
marital relationship. Also research has proven that
ladies who grew up in a home where their father
abuses their mothers were more likely to be cautious
about marriage.
