ITHENUMAH EMMANUEL |
Indeed We (Nigerians) can boast of an independent Nation, but not yet an Independent People. Yes! we are free from the Britain, We are no longer sold/bought as slaves, but this has not in anyway improved the life of the common Nigerian who ordinarily is the strength of the Nation.
We are blessed with wealth ...Yes, lot and lot of them, but No, we can't boast of a standard living for the ordinary true Nigerian, no constant Electricity, the Pension system is broken, very poor minimum wage, the social amenities are laughable and yes yes yes we are independent. The hope of a ordinary Nigerian getting his/her desired life is a mirage.
Notwithstanding, we have a great future, a future where even the poorest man can boast of two square meal at least everyday, an adequate water supply and the hope of an improvement, but this can only come to pass when our Leaders wakes up in the morning with a thought like this
- ''Our flag shall be a symbol
- That truth and justice reign,
- In peace or battle honour'd,
- And this we count as gain,
- To hand on to our children
- A banner without stain''.
- and then go down on their kneels and pray in such a manner
- ''O God of all creation,
- Grant this our one request,
- Help us to build a nation
- Where no man is oppressed,
- And so with peace and plenty
- Nigeria may be blessed''.
- Not saying it as if they mean it, but Meaning every bit of it.
- God bless Nigeria. happy independence celebrations.
